As an artist working in clay I find there are many aspects that lead to completion of a piece. I am inspired by the natural world and how objects made in clay can reflect that world. There is the creative physical part that involves movement, force and focus as the clay is manipulated into a form. I use a combination of hand building, wheel throwing, slabs and molds to make shapes. An interest in minerals and rocks found hiking in the Southwest has motivated the creation of my surface treatment. Minerals are used to make colorants which are added to glazes that are layered to enhance textural surfaces. The sculptures are multiple fired in an electric kiln until the desired effect has taken place.
